  • Slow pts/fio results on four Samsung 860 EVO 1 TB SSD RAID0 array

I have a system that's running an Asus P9X79-E WS with 64 GB of RAM, four Samsung 860 EVO 1 TB SATA 6 Gbps SSD in RAID0 on a Broadcom/Avago/LSI MegaRAID 9341-8i 12 Gbps SAS HW RAID HBA running CentOS 7.6.1810.

The array itself is formatted using XFS.

When I run the FIO sequential write test on the array using a 64 kiB block size, the unbuffered results in a sequential write speed of only between 210-211 MB/s on a four-drive SATA SSD RAID0 array.

Any ideas why this might be the case?

I've read through the published results on the Phoronix site with SATA SSDs in RAID0 and also NVMe SSDs in RAID0 and most of the RAID results, I think, uses md RAID. Does it make a difference for PTS whether it uses md RAID vs. megaraid_sas?

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.
