Thanks RedHat for investing into Linux, instead of forking & doing your own stuff all the time like some competitors do.

I love your punchline. Take this, Canonical!
Oh, wait, they are disgusted by our comportment, and we shouldn't say that. Really, we are haters, we are bad guys.

          You mean Ubuntu?

The whole point of Open Source is to be able to fork and go in your own direction!

Having the right to do so from a license perspective is pretty important but exercising the right on a major project also carries the maintenance liability and is not always a wise decision.

and unlike canonical, redhat is actually profitable.

Redhat does good things with technology. Be like redhat.

I am really hoping Ubuntu goes back to what made them important last decade, and that is fixing day one bugs, adding user features, and all the polish most nerds think is beneath them. They were damn good at that. Everything else...

Sure, there is nothing wrong about that.
However looking back, there are lots and lots of projects where RedHat's investment was/is highly beneficial for the *whole* linux ecosystem and not just RHEL/Fedora (systemd, network-manager, linux-kernel, wayland, ...) - whereas most Canonical projects not only failed sooner or later, but also were also obstructive in agreeing on standard-ways of doing things for linux. Furthermore, Canonical only invests very seldom / little into projects, not lead by Canonical.

                  Fixed.

Opensource isn't about taking code without paying, but about pooling resources. Everyone that didn't get that yet has failed hard.

Being able to fork and go your own direction is just plus. I believe the main points with Open Source is what it allows you to do, like collaborating with other people, connecting communities, sharing knowledge and knowing that what you're using is also yours to tinker with and then share it with others.
