Phoronix: This Mini $109 GTX 1050 Might Be Great For A HTPC / Living Room Steam Linux PC

The GeForce GTX 1050 graphics cards are beginning to ship today. As mentioned in yesterday's NVIDIA 375.10 vs. Linux 4.8 + Mesa 13.1-dev AMD GPU Benchmarks, I unfortunately don't have any Linux reviews to publish today due to waiting on the hardware but will have GTX 1050 and GTX 1050 Ti reviews in the days ahead. The first GTX 1050 card to be tested is a Zotac GTX 1050 Mini, which might be great for a living room HTPC or 1080p "Steam Machine" on a budget...

    Depressingly dumb port complement.

Also, can I point out that we've had at least a couple RX 460 (XFX for example) with the same form factor (slightly longer, but still fit on a mini-itx).

Right, I''m mentioning it as I am testing this card currently. I also don't think though the mini RX 460s reached around $109 yet?

What is the current threshold for "mini" ? There are a couple of single-fan 460's on newegg.com (MSI, XFX) for $109 and one of them is 6.77" long - although I'm not 100% sure that measurement is correct since a similar-looking XFX card is ~9" long (??!!). They are 2GB though.

Maybe the dimensions for the second (XFX) card includes the box

          With NVidia's current attitude towards open-source drivers ? ... no chance :/

GPUs like this are ideal for micro ATX and mini ITX cases, where physical space and other expansion slots are limited. I don't understand why this needs to take up 2 slots. This isn't (or rather, shouldn't be) power-hungry enough to demand such a big heatsink. I understand this isn't Nvidia's fault though.

The best GPU I know of that only uses 1 slot is a HD 7770. Though, I haven't checked in a while.

Most sites have not update their "best card for less than 150$" article so people are still buying it....

Concerning this micro-card: I love that format, my next pc will be a small factor so I can put my screen on it and save space.

The outputs require use of two slots and there is no way around that without changing the HDMI and DP to mini ports and dropping the DVI.

the maker states 7'' for card and 14'' for box, I blame the Greys for that newegg error.

How about NO? Single slot cards with VGA and DVI existed, why now you need 2 slots?
