Phoronix: Igalia Posts Intel vertex_attrib_64bit Mesa Driver Patches, Close To OpenGL 4.1+

While the Intel Mesa driver remains at OpenGL 3.3 due to missing FP64 support, that code continues to be worked on by Igalia and Intel's OTC developers. Patches for a related extension, ARB_vertex_attrib_64bit, have also now been published that will clear Intel's Mesa driver requirements for OpenGL 4.1...

It's great if the driver will be soon able to advertise opengl 4.2, but are there any apps that really need those 64b stuff atm?

Why only on Broadwell and newer? Shouldn't software emulation work on all Intel IGPs that can do OpenGL 3.3?

Easier to code. They were working on gen7 too, but then switched course, not needing to focus on gen7 allowed them to work faster. I hope they haven't fully forgotten gen7 though.

Current Intel GPUs also have fairly terrible fp64 performance so these extensions are pretty useless and virtually no games need them; functionally, Intel Mesa is up to 4.2

true but some games check version rather than extensions so an override is necessary also the missing openfgl 4.3 extension isnt almost needed

Doesn't matter. The Extension is a hard requirement for newer Version. Advertise a extension that is not present is worse, much more worse as implement this extension with some emulation.

You can override OpenGL and GLSL version and run BioShock Infinite and DiRT Showdown, but that does not work for every game. Nobody prevents you from trying...

Is there a way to override it without recompiling? Perhaps an environment variable or something?
