Phoronix: The Linux OS Originally Known As Lindows Is Out With Linspire 12 Alpha

Linspire as the Linux distribution whose roots go back two decades ago to when it originally started out as "Lindows" is preparing a new major release. The current incarnation of Linspire though started five years ago when PC/OpenSystems acquired the Linspire and Freespire rights from Xandros. Linspire claims to be "the easiest desktop Linux" and are looking to improve things further with their v12 release...

Well, doesn't look like Windows at all anymore. Wasn't that one of the selling points originally for Linspire? Bringing an as-close-as-possible-to-Windows Desktop experience?

I don't understand some of their decisions. They are shipping an almost up to date Microsoft Edge browser, but an ancient kernel version? The kernel is important for hardware compatibility and drivers.

Their previous releases did ship with KDE. For whatever reason they switched to GNOME for the 12 release...which is funny since, as I hear it, Ubuntu/Kubuntu have been doing a lot better with KDE releases in the past couple years.

They also need to clean up their forums. One guy posting over and over again about how he didn't get emailed the link to the premium iso and how they're a scam doesn't really Linspire a lot of confidence.

But than it would feel even less like Windows?

IMO at this point, and if you're in the market for a Linux distro that presents itself as a substitute for Windows users, just get Zorin OS.

                Based on Gnome???
                No thanks!
Why not use KDE Plasma that is already >95% similar to Windows and is really customizable without having to rely and bullshit extensions?
                Another DoA!

They put price tag on it. It would be an isult to customer if they used kde.

Why do you think so? In this case KDE would make a lot more sense than GNOME if the intent is to bring a close to windows-like experience to users I'd think. GNOME definitely gives me more of a MacOS vibe.
