Phoronix: RADV Wires Up VK_EXT_descriptor_buffer, VKD3D-Proton Usage Pending

Introduced last week as part of Vulkan 1.3.235 was the new VK_EXT_descriptor_buffer extension. NVIDIA issued a dame-day Vulkan beta with support for this new capability while now the open-source Mesa Radeon Vulkan driver "RADV" has added support for it too and there is also VKD3D-Proton usage for this new extension pending...

Seems to be some confusion about the embargo on this. Khronos just tweeted a blog post about this extension, which states that it's embargoed until tomorrow. They've since removed the tweet.

How exactly does it benefit vkd3d-proton? Quality of design improvements or better performance?

Both. I'd suggest reading through https://www.khronos.org/blog/vk-ext-descriptor-buffer if you're interested. There's a whole section about why they want to use it for their D3D12 implementation, but it mostly comes down to allowing a simplified and more direct access which allows avoiding performance problems that couldn't be avoided previously.
