Phoronix: Metro Exodus Launches For Linux But Off To Bumpy Start

As scheduled, Metro Exodus saw its native Linux port debut today. This first person shooter from 4A Games launched on Windows and consoles in 2019 while the 4A Engine powered game only debuted today for macOS and Linux. Previously it would work with Steam Play but now there is a native Linux port albeit with some kinks still to work out...

Considering the trend that games come up broken on Windows platform and even on consoles now, It's not surprising.

The question is "Where's the fire?", and it goes in general really. The answer is that people leading publishing companies do not understand what is better, or it is some strange type of marketing "Any marketing is a ood marketing". Either way, buyers are guilty for such behaviour of publishers, I understand that linux buyers being much smaller group, power is not in their hands, so they have to deal with it.

I love how game options have manufacturer/designer names as an part of the feature name, It's refreshing to see that .

I'm glad they did this port. Hopefully we can get the AMD issues resolved quickly.

it doesn't work in wayland session. only works in xorg. that's why it "crashes" on amd cards because most amd cards in gnome session defaults to wayland because gnome defaults to wayland.

i had the same issue and was pulling out my hair because it works just fine in proton on wayland. after looking at its files i noticed it uses sdl2 and sdl2 supports wayland. so i figured maybe its a wayland issue. switching to gnome on xorg, it fires up just fine. the developers must have never tested in wayland with amd cards...

nvidia "works" because nvidia is xorg only.

Did you try Sway or KDE with Wayland?

Michael, could you give it a try running it with:

Latest mesa stable (21.0.2) instead of git
MangoHUD disabled in case you use it
