    Whitewater Foundry is the home of Pengwin, the premiere Linux environment for Windows, and provides hybrid enterprise consulting services.


    Pengwin also has a different spin for WSL based on Debian.

    Interesting to see all of this WSL development but will it be for naught once WSL2 comes out?

      The main difference between WSL1 and WSL2, is that WSL1 relies on the "subsystem" infrastructure (the sort-of multiple personnalities disorder of the NT-kernel) so that the NT-kernel can run also Linux ELF in addition to Win32 PE, whereas WSL2 uses a genuine Linux kerenl in a VM based on Hyper-V (but a "lite" version which also available on Windows flavours that don't normally ship with Hyper-V).
      That's it.

      Where the Linux elfs you try to run come from doesn't really have any impact.

      According to Microsoft it relatively easy to switch between wsl 1 and 2 with simple command lines.

      an openSUSE flavour packaged with OBS will run mostly the same way no matter if run with WSL1 on a NT-kernel or with WSL2 on a Linux kernel VM.
