Phoronix: X.Org Server 1.19.7 Is Being Prepared For Ubuntu With OutputClass Improvements

With the feature-packed X.Org Server 1.20 going to be too late to make it into the April release of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, a new X.Org Server point release is being prepared by an Ubuntu developer that does include some basic new functionality...

It's a shame that Ubuntu 18.04 wont have X.Org 1.20. IIRC there are a bunch of other great minor releases of popular software that it's also missing. I guess this will always happen though, as people are always working on useful new features for Open Source software and it would be unreasonable to expect them to always perfectly align with LTS releases of popular distros.

Is anyone working on TearFree for modesetting DDX?

That will still tear on rotated display, which is norm for tablets, so tablet users have to get back to Intel DDX to activate TearFree. There is no solution for modesetting DDX AFAIK.

since it will backport next year to Ubuntu 18.04.2 it's no problem, they can't put a unstable git in their Lts distro.

A good solution is no to use modesetting since is piece of garbage with intel. Really bad decision by Ubuntu stoping using sna intel driver

If nvidia blob is an only glvnd user, Debian should provide two egl packages - one with --disable-libglvnd for main and another with --enable-libglvnd for contrib.

Does anybody else uses glvnd and not in combo with green blob?

There are some exceptions really, as even web browsers should be in contrib as we don't know will you download only blob things with your browser, but since it could be used for both it is considered fine for main

Soon Oibaf ppa and Padoka ppa will be fixed in Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver.
The maintainers have told us this themselves in the following forum posts:GLVND is the best graphics software improvement coming to Ubuntu 18.04/Bionic Beaver!
