Canonical is just better at marketing.
Red Hat are the main developers of gtk+, gnome, systemd, lvm 2.0xx, and god knows what else. They also contribute heavily to gcc, glibc, binutils, and the linux kernel. They are literally everywhere.

Canonical were said to have financial problems for many years already, and operate at loss. They can't seem to figure out their focus, unlike RedHat.

I worry about their focus. have you heard about their plans for Ubuntu Nations or Ubuntu States of America or Ubuntu Russian Federation or Ubuntu Bitcoin? I think they have some sort of plan.
