Phoronix: James Bottomley: The Linux Kernel Mailing List Behavior Isn't All That Bad

Sarah Sharp stepped down as a Linux kernel developer this week over what she feels is bad and toxic behavior on the Linux kernel mailing list with a lack of respect and colorful language. Her announcement sparked a lot of people to come out with polarized views and Matthew Garrett also ended up stepping away from making mainline kernel contributions. Well known kernel developer James Bottomley has now published a blog post expressing different views...

Phoronix, Linux Hardware Reviews, Linux hardware benchmarks, Linux server benchmarks, Linux benchmarking, Desktop Linux, Linux performance, Open Source graphics, Linux How To, Ubuntu benchmarks, Ubuntu hardware, Phoronix Test Suite

SJW... delayed response sounds like over reaction to highlight a nonissue in our current climate of fake outrage and fake-liberal totalitarian control over free speech by narcissistic crazies on too many pharmaceutical drugs giving them a delusional sense that they are changing the world for the better by claiming victim-hood and using manufactured outrage to force control and limit free thought.

Did anyone of that ones, that are making a big fuzz now, actually check the facts? Or did they just all copy from the biased opinions of Sharp?

      Well, some did: https://www.preining.info/blog/2015/...harps-crusade/

So in the spirit of faked rape, fake victims and other hillarious things like the dongle joke "incident", this is just another case where the SJW army makes another victim game.
And now the can say " See, you have not enough women in tech" . Yes, because they keep telling everyone that its so bad in tech :/

Guys make stupid jokes. Guys don't realize it's actually hurtful and thinks it's OK to do that. News at eleven.

I agree that there's no way you can make as something open as LKML without stupid accidents. However it is nonsense to excuse it. It is bad, unprofessional behavior and that's it. There's no 'buts' and 'because'.

I find it actually disturbing that chicks come by with holier than thou pose to say that you are doing it wrong and you must behave differently. They be not my mother, and they hold no other position of power nor authority to say anything.

Wait a moment, will you? Could you put some examples and what makes you think that the mailing list should be a colourless and odorless place? "Professional", all the time, during all these years, when everyone is in fact in the safety of their home and none gets yelled IRL?

I think the mailing list is /de facto/ professional, and Linux stands as a proof of it.

There are thousands of LKML messages for every kernel release. But the only ones that make the news are the ones where Linus chews someone out. Which he does once or twice a year just like every other boss in every other business. It's the same issue as the studies that show how the news has convinced people that crime is up, when really it's at the lowest level in decades. We only hear about the bad stuff because it is news, the thousands upon thousands of productive messages go unnoticed.

What's really at issue here is a bunch of SJW trying to capitalize the perception that the LKML is akin to worst parts of 4chan. If Sharp really felt the the LKML was so terrible she wouldn't have run around to every social media outlet complaining about it, or tried to organize a witch hunt against Linus personally, or waited two years to leave. She would have just left. The problem is that these people are bullies trying to inject their political views in to FOSS. Just like they did with occupy wall street, Atheism+, video games, comics, and other communities.

We should happy to see these people give up and go home.

That joke wasn't hurtful, but the way Sharp tried to spin it as a threat of physical violence was both unprofessional and toxic. Some people chuckled, others maybe roll their eyes and she starts a witch hunt. Who is really the toxic party here?

If you are a lazy ass cunt, and your work sucks because of that, then eventually Linus will yell at you. Now, where is the problem? Think carefully.
