    Phoronix: Systemd Kills Off Shutdownd

Systemd has eliminated shutdownd, one of the oldest components of this controversial init system, but its removal isn't because systemd is going on a diet...

omg omg systemd gains some more bloat and kills open source
On an unrelated note, phoronix forums are broken in Chrome, since it refuses to load "unsafe scripts" and I don't really want to do that either.

Making shutdown functionality part of the component responsible for session management makes a lot of sense.

Please explain how systemd kills open source. I would love to see some actual facts proving this.

              systemd is already non-free software

Systemd is as much threat to Free Software as all commercial software. It's like the nvidia code obfuscation some years ago, it takes freedom number one away from their users:

Even if it is GPL code one freedom is removed from the users

This does no longer apply since systemd is a complicated set of deamons communicatong with libsystemd, also via dbus, and people have tried to single out e.g. udev and logind parts and failed. Add to that the non-existance of comment in the code, look for yourself. There are man pages, but these don't explain the cod base. NOTE: This is a new phenomenon in the free software world so it is not yet well known. It will in the future though, it's all about vendor lock-in as with M$ and apple

                    Let me understand this...

They removed a service that was already part of systemd as one of the services, made it part of logind (which makes sense), getting rid of services and binary files, and you call that bloat???? http://www.freedesktop.org/software/...d.service.html
