Phoronix: Microsoft's Open-Source Group Merges Back Into The Company

For the past three years Microsoft Open Technologies Inc (MS Open Tech) has been Microsoft's subsidiary to interact with open-source communities, increase Linux / open standards interoperability with Windows, etc. That subsidiary is now being merged back with Microsoft itself as the company continues to embrace open-source...

Define play nice. Also, they'd better get Vulkan public bloody fast if they want any compatibility with dx12 to happen except by accident

He has referred to the free software Linux kernel as a "cancer that attaches itself in an intellectual property sense to everything it touches".[57] Ballmer used the notion of "viral" licensing terms to express his concern over the fact that the GNU General Public License (GPL) employed by such software requires that all derivative software be under the GPL or a compatible license." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Ballmer

anybody who believes that this shit company Microsoft will do anything good to FOSS/GPL software and community are in my point of view just Stupid. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stupidity
Ballmer left microsoft and Satya Nadella love open source software.

and YES, gpl spread like a virus.
that's why bsd is better for a lot of things.

And this is bad how? Viruses spread fast.
BSD is bad. We see good BSD sample in Apple Mac. They use BSD kernel. Where is BSD today?

Practically unheard of. I only once came across it. ONCE and I have worked in tech support for quite some years.

              this is scarry

"and engage in open standards. "

I don't want to see Microsoft nowhere near "open standards".

open source - please give us your code, so we can profit from it
open collaboration - please work with us, so we can swallow you whole
open standards - let's copy them and make our own instead
open advocacy within - we'll make our evil plans anyway

Their next step is owning the hardware.

Microsoft (and Apple) love BSD'd open source, it's free labor.

But they hate GPL'd software, because it is about freedom and sharing.

                Shareholders hate sharing.

Some people simply can not be satisfied. Microsoft is evil because they do closed source software, and Microsoft is also not allowed around open source stuff. Hypocrisy is strong with some people.
