Most cheap tablets have locked down bootloaders, so what are the good cheap OEM's/labels that have their bootloaders unlocked or merely locked with weak locks that can be cracked?

I'd steer clear of these sort of tablets that are locked down and with unremovable malware buried inside.

If you get a locked tablet by accident, take it back

If you get one of these by accident, take it back. If they won't take it, set up outside with signs warning other customers the store is selling tablets with malware that can't be taken out. They will probably be very quick to give you back your money just to shut you up, and will probably complain to the vendor. If the vendors get many of these kind of complaints they will pull out the spyware just like Lenovo had to get rid of Superfish (which should have been called superPHISH with that certificate attack).

        Dear Troll

Harald Welte had some considerable success enforcing the GPL. GPL has the same validity as any "commercial license".
Stop TCPA, stupid software patents and corrupt politicians!

          A kind of lobbying.
Good luck with your lynch mob.

Like gpl-violations.org (btw: what happened to that site?) or softwarefreedom.org ? No, seems like they aren't official enough, else a "maximum of customers" should already have them blacklisted, right?

Good idea, and is there a list of makers that use locked bootloaders or make it hard to remove the malware on their devices?

That is extremely easy: sue them in the US, and block all imports of their stuff. They'll start cooperating so fast you won't know what's hit you.
