Phoronix: OS Battle: Linux Takes 1.7% Desktop Marketshare

We have another metric in showing a 1.7% Linux desktop market-share, which isn't far off from other figures we've seen in the past indicating Linux desktop usage at under 2%...

No wonder as every other release something is broken. Currently my CH Pedals don't work always anymore in Ubuntu 14.04...sigh.

        Misleading title is misleading. Again.

pornhub traffic? doesn't this just suggest that windows users are tossers?

To me it looks like Linux users are not getting laid since they are fiddling with computers most of the time and have to resort only to pornhub.

Something cannot be right here, or maybe I am too naive. I do find it a bit surprising to see a porn web site among the top 100, but why not.

After checking with the source Alexia do the say that most of the traffic is coming from ... schools!

Wow. I did not know you could do that. Shows how little I learned when I was in school. But seriously, do schools not use traffic filters?

I suppose you could take some of that 1.7% as proxies too

And yet they are just under 2% traffic...

No, because they have a less-than-average porn traffic share (when taking market share into account). Mac OS users, on the other hand? well, most office computers are probably running Windows, and I think most people refrain from watching porn at their work place. So maybe that explains the under-representation of Windows.

I like the stats. :-) They also seem to indicate that the gay->Mac myth may not be as far fetched as I thought it to be, since only Mac users have a male porn star in their top 20 search terms. Though I have to admint he doesn't look very twinky or in any way like a typical gay porn actor that a big part of the gay audience would search for. So maybe there are simply more female mac users who love porn compared to other platforms.

Their claim about the Linux ecosystem being public domain is incorrect, obviously?
