Depends on the support the new api will get. In drivers.

Also since they are starting it from scratch there should also find a way to not have 100000000 different implementations and if we cant get away with this at least make things strict.

Cross platform APIs are usually good.

i'd say its really good. amd is probably trying to push as much of their work in something open and not controlled by single entity with the real reason being probably that more features they push, less work it is to support it and all that is compatible with their previous work and hardware. and only really bad thing about mantle was not mantle it self

at worst this move could mean status quo if khronos declined, if not we might see OGL.Next much sooner than we would

As i see there is no word about linux specificaly, it is only about AMD commitment in next OpenGL

DX12 will have that "Little Mantle" feature, and also OpenGL Next...

It is funny to me they call it OpenGL Next with big N .

Who will do their damnest to obstruct this?

              NVIDIA

Fortunately, their influence within the consortium that makes up Khronos is minimal and becoming less as times goes on.

Well, if everyone keeps just blindly follow their OpenGL implementations, they will quickly realise they don't need to collaborate.

I needed a good laugh for the day

If you really think AMD has never done anything good, you either don't keep up with the times, or have a very strange standard of good... even more so when you think NVIDIA can handle APIs well. For Linux.
