Who is singling out Apple? I thought the main complaint was that Jobs was getting this 'pay respects to a great man' reaction and some people were objecting.
Many people don't know about Richie. Where is the discussion about him? The mainstream media hasn't made a big deal... some tech rags or blogs might have mentioned it but...
Also, the mod here is a Mac user so you won't get any objective perspective here. I thought Linux ppl, in general, weren't overly fond of Apple/Jobs... the two are very contradictive.
Although, the Unix part is one where there is a commonality, the values inherent in each are opposite, imho. But, what I have read of Jobs (how he was involved and his relations with co-founders of Apple, relations with politicians - e.g. Clinton etc), I really don't see the fascination or reason for praise. I guess it's just me... most people don't care about values or principles so they go with superficial values and ideals.
