    Imagination dumping RISC-V

Love them or hate them, they are still a big name and its not great news for the RISC-V ecosystem.

Imagination Technology in the UK has shut down its development of RISC-V processor cores to focus on its GPU and AI products.

NOTE: this is not them dropping out of GPU that are on riscv. Imagination straight up made CPUs too. If anything with their prevalence in riscv gpus, this might be a good thing for the ecosystem

You are totally correct there, but anyone dropping out of the cpu side is also not great as its a really small ecosystem.

They developed an in-order core with a dual-issue, 11 stage pipeline. That is a pretty common design for the current RISC-V market and nothing I would call advanced technology, SiFive U74 looks similar from a quick look, with a shorter 8 stage pipeline.

I'm not sure if I dealt with them directly, but I recall horror-stories with PowerVR GPUs and/or drivers

yeah in the past they were attrocious, now they have hired devs working on mesa, so a drastic change for them. a literal turnaround story
