Well, that's the duality of man in action. Don't know what else to say, there.
Or, in more direct words: you are a hypocrite, which you have just admitted to.

Hol up, I apparently missed where the entire Linux kernel has a CoC! I thought this just infected small-time projects

I have some opinions but I'll actually read the articles and do some catching-up first

Get your head examined. And get the fuck out of here with this shit.
This is the problem statement, where it went from civil discourse arguing the merits of certain technical approaches and it turned into a personal attack. This should be common sense, really. You wouldn't put this in an email to a work colleague, so why send it to the LKML? I think a time-out is appropriate here.

It is sad that things like CoCs are needed. But there are so many bad people - like Kent - it has become a necessity.
With friends like this, who needs enemies?

Linux Kernel development is inherently a collaborative social conversation. That means the ability to properly communicate with people in a respectful manner is just as important as the physical contributions you provide to the project.

If you have a real job, and you tell a coworker in a meeting to "Get your head examined and get the fuck out of here with this shit", you will be reprimanded or fired.

If you're a member of a volunteer organization, and you say "Get your head examined and get the fuck out of here with this shit" to a fellow volunteer you disagree with - you will be reprimanded or removed from the organization.

If you participate in your local community gardening club, and you say "Get your head examined and get the fuck out of here with this shit" to a fellow club member when they want to plant something you don't like - you will be removed from the club or reprimanded.

If you're at a pizza shop and say "Get your head examined and get the fuck out of here with this shit" when they ask if you want some garlic sauce to go with your breadsticks - you will be asked to leave the establishment and/or be permanently banned.

Kent has repeatedly demonstrated he is unable to work amicably with others, and gets extremely frustrated when he doesn't get his way. He should count himself lucky they only gave him a single cycle time-out.

It's become very clear to me that Kent, many other open source developers, and quite a few members of Phoronix have clearly never had a real job that required them to interact with other people or have ever been involved in any kind of social organization. The language they use with others is simply unacceptable in the real world. You CANNOT talk to people like that and expect to get away with it without consequence.

It's either that, or they just feel emboldened by the keyboard.

He agreed to a Code, violated it, and was then punished.

He agreed to be under the power given to those people ahead of time.

Why they have power is because Linus used to be an asshole, too. Just because someone is keen in the ways of kernel programming doesn't mean they have the right to be an asshole and treat others in an undignified manner.

How in the jumped up hell did a jarhead turn into a whiny bitch himself is what I want to know. I know for a fact you got the job done under much less cordial circumstances if you didn't get a failure to adapt discharge. And that's in peacetime. What circumstances did you come across that convinced you strength was a vice and weakness was a virtue?

You need to get out in the real world. Work something blue collar for a year or two. You'll see much less polite conversations happening every single day. And the work still gets done and nobody goes crying to HR. For the most part nobody even takes it personally if it's a job related beef. This is in fact the norm of how men work when they're not sitting behind a desk all day.

Your time saving and leaving configuration options to the user is greatly appreciated.
