A dick himself calling others dicks. Yeah... the one who needs to change is Kent, not the whole kernel culture. Nothing is perfect and there will always be issues, but in this case, it's the bcachefs author that makes the problem, not the other way around. His past (and continuing) behavior only shows it... The guy is so consumed by ego that's he's become blind to his own behavior and can't self-reflect.

Exactly. Also this article does not clearly state what the problem is with Kent as a person. Now we have a CoC used as a blanket statement to silence/cancel a contributor, and the CoC not being able to persuade the BDFL to not treat all Russian from a position of his personal disdain for Putin's policy.

Maybe we needs a BRICS fork of the kernel. Less woke bullshit.

In case Kent needs anger mgmt/ communication skill: I seem to remember Linus knows a great therapist for exactly such issues.

Is it possible to kick Kent & let someone with social skills do the communicating on the mailing list on his behalf? Maybe this is a good use for AI+LLMs? …to fix his tone. It does not seem he has the discipline to do this himself after reading quite a few of the threads that have popped up & it is very disappointing since the filesystem does have a lot of promise (tho the quality of the pull requests have been pretty iffy too according to Linus on several threads).

i did. this is why I said kent has a deluded persecution complex and shows no sign of changing. sadly being 100% about kent's attitude will not get me a plate of cookies.

I'm always surprised at how many snowflakes are on the Linux community talking all the time about woke shit and all that.

You guys should go outside more often, touch some grass, and stop saying stupid BS like that, i've seen 8 years old childs more mature.

Really, it's getting very annoying, all the time with the same idiotic stuff...

              Interesting, reading:

              And seeing Kents reply:

Which seems to say "trust me" while backhanding changes and actively working on bypassing people that should trust him?

Trust is earned and should not be taken for granted.

Just because e.g. Windows has high market share does not mean Windows is a good operating system that you should be using. Food for thought.

I'm wondering why is it so hard for people to behave? Especially for so called 'professionals'? What's the point in being an asshole? Your code won't be better because of it. You won't have higher reputation from it. This is just infantile.

If you can't stand people, ask for help. Ask someone to proxy between you and the project you are working on. Currently I have at least 2 colleagues with certain mental problems who can't attend calls and meetings and they have some internal liaisons who represent them on the calls. This is working. These guys won't freak out during a call and also won't ruin the work of the others, while their professional output is quite high level.

Previously I also had a lot of asshole colleagues who thought themselves waaaaaaaaay better than anyone else and belittled others every possible time, always tried to show superiority, yelled at meetings, yelled insults to others and wrote very lowend style emails to people in the organization.

You know what happened? First they were considered 'funny' and 'interesting individuals'. Then they got warned by the management and finally got fired, because this behaviour costed more for the company than it gained. Good people were leaving because they couldn't live in such an environment which was not called 'toxic' at that time because this happened way before CoCs and committees could be found at every corner.

Cosider this: thousands are working on the kernel and they could align somehow to the rules. Isn't this interesting?

I hate the concept of CoC, they are cancer. But I do not believe in the enemy of my enemy being my friend so Kent can go and reap the consequences of his actions.

I will celebrate the day bcachefs is removed from mainline and the only one kent can blame for that is himself and his Hindenburg sized hot air filled ego.

Currently the mighty BRICS are busy hating one another, some of them throw with sticks and stones to solve their border dispute. And you think that club of "We all hate each other but we hate the West more" club can manage a kernel fork?
