DanL just broke the CoC
Bcachefs Changes Rejected Reportedly Due To CoC, Kernel Future "Uncertain"

Linus handed linux to the woke activists and lawyers, so obviously we're going to get an abuse of power. But the code of conduct enforcers aren't political wokies, they are serious technical contributors to Linux. That being said, this is clearly on Kent for acting in such a self righteous way this entire time. Being technically correct doesn't mean anything when you are also a jerk. Even if you can point to some reason for you being a jerk. Anyone who's spent time in a technical organization will realize that there is a point where it doesn't matter how good the person is, if it's always a battle with them, the tradeoffs will keep growing until they give you the boot.
Since I have been both a supporter of bcachefs and someone who calls out the dangers of kent's attitude, this is my prediction: First, is that kent has devoted himself to taking any technical rejection as a personal attack on him, his ideas, and his project. That embattled attitude has spread to people contributing to bcachefs. This will only get fixed by rejection, meaning 6 months or more outside the kernel. There's a big issue with implementing this, which is that bcachefs already in the kernel. I don't think they are going to go russian on kent, but I do think it's clear that kent will not be able to be the maintainer of bcachefs on the mailing lists for the next sixth months. If that means that kent cannot find a maintainer from the bcachefs community thinks has the chops, then bcachefs will eventually get deprecated out of the kernel.
On the plus side, kent off the mailing lists will be a revolution for bcachefs, he'll just go the zfs approach, and actually maintain a dkms kernel for now, he'll be able to focus on windows/rust port of bcachefs.
However, Kent needs to learn a simple lesson, that the world works on a go along to get along model. that you cannot promote the idea that you were right and the other guy was wrong, you have to not get so emotionally invested in every technical debate, because once you add emotion to the argument you've lost the debate.
It's been clear for a while that we were heading to this, and unless kent has a revolution in his mindset he's going to take this as further evidence that he's being unfairly persecuted. So what Kent, you aren't the messiah or a gospel. your persecution complex only enrages you and makes you hostile to people who already don't want to deal with you. Had you not taking everything so personally over and over, and accepted it will take time and politeness to win people over, you probably would have gotten a lot more contributions accepted. The fact that you congratulate the rust4linux guy for rage quitting just shows that you don't want wants best for the kernel, you want whats best for yourself.

It's pretty sad that Kent can't see the obviousness of the problems. Don't be an asshole, do participate in discussions and procedures the way everyone else does, don't be a bigot.

Kent just can't seem to stop himself from lashing out and insulting others.
And blaming everyone other than himself for his difficulties.
As I've said before, I was surprised when Linus gave him a chance and allowed bcachefs to be mainlined despite his past behavior. But I assumed Linus saw potential in bcachefs and thought Kent might change his attitude and learn to work with others if given an opportunity. However it appears that Kent just can't help himself, or simply doesn't want to. It's a shame because I also see potential in bcachefs, but if Kent can't learn to communicate civilly and behave as an adult then his file system, no matter the merits, will not survive within the mainline.

If I were Kent I'd do the "professional" thing and write the non-apology, apology, they're after and then knuckle down as usual. I doubt the points he raises will ever be addressed. The CoC is there to reduce conflict, they don't want healthy discussion and debate. If that means pretending you're sorry then you should do that.
