Retirees accept only C, but reject even C++. But one can sag to Red Hat, Microsoft, Facebook, etc. It has long been interesting to see how there are wars among supporters of the old Unix, but no one opposes corporations, the move away from Unix, the lack of funding for important projects. How did we get to the point where money is going left and right on controversial projects, and X11, xfce4, sysVinit (+runit etc), Hurd and others are not getting even a little support for upgrades and choices. And now FS, which should nicely diversify the choices and become universal.

Also, your comment itself is a prime example of cancelling people, you'd be a great member of the kernel CoCk committee.

Funny, people claiming that CoC is the issue. People claiming 'woke' is the issue. People claiming that Kent is a super professional and allowed to be a dick.
You all have not read the email threads. Stop posting, start reading.
The problem is Kent. Plain and simple. He sents feature patches when the rc's are aboug bug fixes. He tries to sneak in MM patches without consulting the MM people first. MM is hard and convuluted. He makes it worse.
He is utterly inable to work with others. He is breaking trust left and right and when called out, he insults people.
Btw, Michal Hocko is doing kernel work before phoronix forum even existed. He survived MM hell. He is certainly a more skilled dev than anyone in this thread.
So go and read. And stop that 'evil coc' and 'bad woke' nonesense. You are barking at the wrong tree. Your worldview is so screwed up, no glasses will help. But maybe information will. It is not about CoC. It is about Kent being a total arsehole trying again and again to force others to play by his ruies and accept his bullshit. His rules are 'what I am doing is right and you shut up'.
People like Kent destroy projects. Nothing they do has any worth in the long run. His fs might be exciting and shiny. So what? Linux has plenty of exciting and shiny fs to pick from. Without some wannabe dictator like Kent screwing around in the background.

Linux's creator is stepping back from his Linux kernel work -- to work instead on his behavior toward other developers.
Secondly, patches are patches. Explain why they cannot be accepted/committed, ignore further merge requests until your requests/requirements are met. Case solved. No one is cancelled. Yes, there are persistent people who are difficult to work with. That doesn't mean they should be "cancelled".
And Kent surely hasn't destroyed anything yet. Stop blaming the guy for the thing he hasn't even done yet.
This is the case of CoC, nothing more, nothing less.

Funny thing, one of the first emails on lkml from Kent is him pissing ofl Al Viro. If I had to choose between Al Viro (a personality in abrasiveness only second to Linus) and Kent, give me Al Viro. He is an arsehole as well. But he plays by the rules. Something Kent is utterly incapable off. Al Viro is the type that pushes projects forwards. Kent is the type that kills projects.

If I were Kent, I would take the development out and complete independently in sync with mainline (just like Con Kolivas was doing with BFS). If bcachefs is as good as it is aimed to be, it will be merged again.

You also ignoring that Kent did not just sent patches to lkml to review but pull requests. He breaks rules, he breaks trusts. If he gets removed, he is the only one to blame.
