Both are regulated by their local legal systems. Places without legal systems are usually regarded as 'failed states'. Even Adam Smith recognised the necessity of a regulatory framework.

Guys, when one person rapes and kills another person, we should not condemn this act, we should analyze nuances around it: perhaps the victim was rude or said some lies, perhaps a friend of the victim promised something to the crime committer and did not fulfill the promise. It's basically the victim's and the victim friend's fault. Stop being so binary thinking libtards...

Russia offended the US, and that's why it is OK for the US to try to rape and murder Russia? Crazy stuff you are saying...
Up until Russia's recent invasions US hasn't been aggressive against Russia in ages, in fact they kind of forget/stopped caring about Russia decades ago which probably played a hand in hurting Putin's ego (authorotarians hate not being relevant) which ironically made Putin even more insane.

In any case where as other conflicts are more nuanced in how the wars played out (i.e. whats going on currently in Middle east), what occured with Ukraine is quite black and white. Ukraine never did anything aggressive to Russia whatsoever which is why EU support for Ukraine is almost equivocal unless you happen to be brown nosing Russia like Hungary is.

Russia had literally zero logicial reason to invade Ukraine aside from cold war fear mentality, something that has been well documented that Putin is quite subject to. He still thinks in 1800/1900's style imperial/colonialist mentality where you have "buffer" states/countries that are completely subjected/submersive to a super power, and thats how he treats Ukraine which he wants to be completely subject to Russia.

Laughably he made the situation worse by invading it, as its highly likely that Ukraine will now enter NATO just like the other baltic countries because suprise surprise no one likes being invaded. The invasion was the trigger for Finland/Sweden joining NATO as well, which is quite massive considering that historically they were almost entirely neutral, or to be put differently you fuked up pretty hard if you managed to get Sweden and Finland to join a military alliance.

Absolutely agree. This has nothing to do in personal level against those developers. Developers revoked are for sure normal people and don't wanna do anything with russian current day politics assumably. But here's the thing if they live in russian territory there is always risk of them being used for political means by current day russia. Making it as political and security risk for west.

It's sad that confrontation between east and west has taken these terms. Cold war seems to be back. And that's the world we need to live in right now

Wow, what a childish, stupid reply by Linus!

Well at least, now we know for sure he is on the side of the "good guys".

is he letting the "good guys" tinker with the code too? He lets us know he is a political actor for one side ... would be naive to assume "no".

Russia is already on their last leg. Economy is down and now mainly military, Rubel isn't worth anything. Gold reserves going down. Even their oil is on dumping prices as China resists on paying the asked price.

Russia will lose the war they started, politically and economically bankrupt. Not to speak of loss of human material, they already lost nearly 700000 fighters. The question of russian Linux maintainers might solve itself soon if they don't back down and stop the war.

Russia will be broken up into smaller pieces that can be controlled and will never pose a threat to the world ever again until they got their chance to reflect and rehab themselves, just like Nazi Germany has had to do.
China is rubbing their hands behind their back.

genocide is ok by Linus as long as there isnt sanctions.

but now the G7 is a minority economic zone and BRICS has just had its most successful meeting ever, hes probably just grumpy that when he retires it will be someone from a BRICS country like Russia or China that becomes the most active linux kernel. (Brazil if I was uneducated guessing)

Sorry no. There are EU sanctions written basically the same as the USA ones that just have not triggered yet. Yes then RunBSD will be effected because it in a EU country where those sanctions will apply when triggered..

"My neighbor purchased a shotgun, so I proactively killed him just to prevent him potentially theoretically kill me. I'm neither a criminal nor aggressor really, just acting in self defense".

The "logic" of some supposedly logical IT/computers people in this forum, fucking LOL.

Russian tactics make extensive use of artillery, pretty much levelling settlements in their path. It's also pretty indiscriminate. As a civilian, being bombed from an aircraft overhead or from an artillery piece 10km away doesn't make a lot of difference.

OTOH, this is not the correct forum for discussing politics or military tactics. Consider this a null post.
The link is that the blast radius of a bomb affects a wider area than a bullet shot in your forehead. Imagine the police started bombing buildings just because there's a barricaded suspect inside with hostages. Not only would you kill the suspect but also the hostages. Instead, what you could do, is go inside the building with a ground team, kill any hostiles and secure the civilians. And the fact that the Russians do artillery in war means nothing. The settlements they bomb have been evacuated by Ukrainian forces before anything takes place because those settlements can be used as defence positions. Now you can argue about the side business of bombing civilian buildings with ballistic missles in major cities, but that's not the point.
