to me it looks like the orginal maintainer of the git tree is innocent...

well you are a Archlinux user and its a rolling distro means you where more or less the only people hit by this. all non rolling distros like fedora or debian or ubuntu or whatever it never landet in any stable release...

you hate xz now i unterstand but you need to unterstand that you and rolling releases like archlinux are part of the problem to.

if you want security agaist supply chain attacks you should not use a rolling distro like arch linux.
Well that's not true at all....

Actually, it was only debian and redhat effected, the two biggest so called "stable" distros... -NONE- of the rolling release distro's were effected at all. They all have unstable, testing and stable branches -exactly- for this reason....

EDIT: Why is it that time after time it's always redhat or debian that proves to be the most unstable? The two biggest so called "stable" distro's are easily by -FAR- the most unstable...

right... any sane person left ubuntu at the time Microsoft invested money in ubuntu.

and microsoft's money also is the reason why they keep up this insane snap vs flatpak war going on.

also keep in mind back in time this mir vs wayland was also created by the same people

and my opinion is that gbm vs eglstreams was also from the same people.

and DirectX vs OpenGL was also from the same people to sapotage a open standard.

however snap turns a open-source distro into a closed source proprietary distro because no one can use snap outside of their walled garden shop.

this really sounds nice... what do you mean by "preview update of August 23." do you mean windows 11 ? or also windows 10 ?

well... interesting view... but it really sounds strange to me because no stable release of redhat and debian was ever affected ?
it was in debian unstable and i think debian testing but not in debian 12 stable release.
it was in fedora development branch(41) and it did not even hit fedora 40 beta...

well i am pretty sure you can handle ARCH right just look how Valve manage it for the steam deck these people never even come into contact of the rolling release factor.

i honestly don't know. its a interesting question. i think for debian you can easily answer it they lag of "paid" developer manpower

for the redhat distros the question is much more complex they have paid developer manpower

my educated guess is that redhat and linux in general suffer from the lag of standardisation

MS is doing right now to OpenAI what they did to Canonical, which is what they did to Nokia....You'd think these morons would know better than to put in with MS by now, it's a death sentence....

EDIT: EEE all over again. MS recently announced they don't need OpenAI at all, next step is exterminate...

EDIT: I wonder how many more times MS can thrive after being convicted of antitrust? It's what 6 antitrust convictions now? EDIT: just checked and apparently only 1 conviction in 2000, but there was 2 more settled out of court without convictions. Somehow I thought it was more....

That's because most don't have the money and time to got after Microsoft, so it don't go to court and is not an official conviction. Also did you just look up for the US? The EU in example sanctioned and fined Microsoft multiple times.

English might not be your first language, so:

There is a difference between affected and effected.

The word affect has several different meanings. When used as a verb, it most frequently means to influence something. So affected means that something was influenced

The word effect has several different meanings. When used as a verb, it means to make something happen. So effected means that something was caused to happen.

English is complicated, unfortunately. People differ in their opinions on what language it would be better replaced by.

you are right and it is plain and simple so that everything what microsoft touches will die a slow and painfull death.

and of course it is FUD and EEE all over again... Ubuntu Canonical and also OpenAI is death by now.

these fake antitrust convidtions are a joke in a real state microsoft would be banned. like in russia.
