No, Collabora Office is a real fork, but from Collabora, not TDF and it is used as a base used by the customers of Collabora. It's also a fork in the sense that at certain time points it forks from a LibreOffice stable release, but it never contains anything that is not in LibreOffice master branch. The main purpose of it is to make it independent from the LibreOffice release cycle - can't provide support to customers otherwise. The code is freely available. Other companies have their forks too, for similar reasons.

Lolwut? Abiword is the worst word processor I've ever used. I'm one of the very few here that doesn't like nor use LO, but I would choose LO Writer any day of the week over Abiword. Hell, even the by now abysmal OpenOffice would be a slightly better choice.

Might be worse in many ways, but LO and OO.org aren't particularly agile as applications. Oftentimes a faster option could be a simple markdown document rendered via Pandoc.
