While it's true that the efficacy is sometimes low, it's usually good enough for the vulnerable to be worth taking. Some years, it's in excess of 60%.

I'm not sure about the profitability of it, though. It's definitely not the most profitable product for Pharma companies, which is why I think most vaccine production happens in India.

Yes, they do. And it has been well-studied, which is how we know. Even relatively low-quality masks do help, if compliance is high. See my prior post:

Please find flaw in this simple four sentences above.
      1. Vaccines so far appear to provide decent protection from variants. The amount varies by vaccine. You can find the current status of their variant protection here: https://www.yalemedicine.org/news/co...ine-comparison
      2. Some variants appear not only to spread more readily, but also carry higher risk of complications and death.
      3. Some variants appear to elevate the risk to younger populations.
I didn't find data on deaths by age for India's latest surge, unfortunately. I think it's still too soon.

The quality of the antibodies tends to correlate with the severity and duration of the illness. Back when they were doing antibody treatments via transfusion. they tended to prefer middle-aged patients who'd been hospitalized.

As long as there's any question of your antibody status, you could just take the vaccine to be sure you're part of that herd immunity.

I shouldn't have to tell you that "close" is not the same as actually reaching herd immunity, and the vaccination drive in the US (assuming that's where you are) appears to be stalling. We probably won't get there.

That's great, but it's not actually a reason not to get the vaccine.

BTW, intense exercise actually causes an acute drop in immune system function. So, you might try to limit your exposure during and immediately following workout sessions. Look it up, if you don't believe me.

I didn't see exactly why you're reluctant, though.

Those are called quacks and crackpots. If they had good ideas, good methodology, and good data, then they wouldn't be outside the mainstream.

Controversial studies are published in mainstream science quite frequently. You don't usually have to go outside the mainstream, unless what you're doing really isn't good science.

That's news? We saw fluctuations in the case numbers throughout 2020, before there was any vaccine! We know that things like business restrictions, distancing, mask-wearing, and people's ability to go outside (i.e. nice weather) are all factors that can help lower case numbers. What the vaccines let us do is get back to how things were before the pandemic, when we didn't have to do any of those things!

I think the real issue is that we believe science. There's not much room for partisanship, in science. There's good science and there's everything else.

Until then do you have no idea how much effort it is to get such know-how.
A you have no idea how much and what education I have so make again wild assumptions without knowledge, but if I take a question that implies that I am dumb by putting a straw men in my mouth, doesn't make me dumb.

Every sane person that has a a good education would be feel attacked when out of nowhere somebody publicly would ask them "How often do you rape your wife". Because the question includes a allegation.

Actually one can somewhat speculate about what education you have after reading your comments. I certainly have an idea.

No. It is highly doubtful for the US or the UK to be doing this after all we have seen so far, and for Europe probably, too. People in the 1st world countries will not want to resort to face masks as the final answer. People will ask for the virus to be eradicated, for an introduction of vaccine passports, for more restricted travel and to give out more vaccines to the rest of the world. And in order to either to push the virus out of individual countries, or to eradicate it completely.

Governor Cuomo announced that COVID-19 restrictions are lifted immediately as 70 percent of New Yorkers aged 18 or older have received the first dose of their COVID-19 vaccination series.

Herd immunity is here, time to stop living in fear and start living again.
It's weird to think NY is typical of the entire US. We know that New England is the region with the highest vaccination rates.

Also, 1 dose is just half-vaxxed, for 2/3rds of the vaccines. Some people unfortunately never get the 2nd dose.

What does this have to do with anything, and what kind of health professional says such a thing?

I'm starting to wonder whether your 2 degrees aren't from some anti-science school, like BJU, where they don't even believe in evolution.

Um, I was talking about cold and flu. So far as we know, eradication is not an option for them. And there's no cold virus vaccine (actually, there are like a half-dozen different cold viruses), so no vaccine passport for that.

FWIW, I'll probably wear a mask in public places, during cold & flu season. Partly for my own protection, but also partly to help normalize the practice.

I don't know about this one. I mean the cold & flu season is quite hard to define I think, and masks only offer good protection is they are widely used (iirc, I should recheck this one).
I don't think people are ready to put masks on outside of a pandemic, at least not in the country I live in.
Maybe one thing what could be done is encouraging people with actual flu/cold symptoms to wear masks. Might help a little.
