        What a load of bullcrap.
To me the open source movement was never about "free and whatever Stallman does".
        It was always more of:
"Thou shalt not give in to stupid."

... Which is exactly what this is.
        Infected by the turds.

This is bullshit. The next time it will remove "0" and "1" from code source to no offends the non binary gender...
Some device are master/slave, in the past exists master/slave, coal is black, and?

Actually, software corporations keep away from publicly doing politics. This is a purely open source thing.

Windows has a lot of shit, but it has no politics. At this point Windows is arguably superior.

This thread will most probably be the shitstorm of the year; see many people kneejerking over this just because - but please look a step further.

I for one welcome this change, but not because it is using inclusive language; No, rather I welcome this change because it tightens up the terminology in a *lot* of places.

Master / Slave is very seldom the best terminology. Take, for instance, a CPU core scheduler that delegates tasks with the help of a "master" process and "slave" workers. Isn't it better that these are given more precise names, such as "Controller / Worker" or "Host / Proxy"? This is a much more specific term; and thus, it is much more descriptive. Same thing with a network driver - is it not better to have "Sender / Receiver" or "Requester / Responder"?

Most people will keep using master / slave language out of habit - if you can, check if there is a more descriptive term first. As a bonus, you won't appear to be a kneejerking douchebag when writing new terminology.

Smh, sometimes I'm really ashamed to be a part of the "linux community".. seeing the endless mee-too posts here only works to reinforce that.

For those that actually care I'll leave this here:

You're not necessarily expected to know. Generally, people are forgiving of you not knowing things, like they are of you introducing bugs in your software. What really counts is not whether you knew everything ahead of time, but how you react when you are made aware of the issue.

There are only a few ways to react:
                  • Agree to make the changes
                  • Double-down on keeping the text as is, and dismiss the request as unreasonable

That second option is where things usually go bad. If someone tells you something you did was hurtful and you just tell them to get over themselves, this is where reciprocity ends. There is no need to respect you since you felt no need to respect them either.
                  Quoted from excellent post below:

Inclusiveness in Language for Outsiders Looking In

What a great popcorn thread. Not even page 2 and I feel like we have more fucks than a porno.

Also, gotta love a post being upset about using inclusive terms while using words like bullcrap and turds to be polite. Aren't people like y'all supposed to be against euphemisms and coddling? Why aren't you saying bullshit and shit? What kind of mental gymnastics do you have to do to coddle bullshit while allowing master and slave to be A1 OK?

No, Linux will be fine. It's western civilization that's done.
