Former Linux Developer Hans Reiser To Remain Locked Up

The IT community is weird, the kernel devs will decide for themselves if they choose to work with someone who extinguished the life of an innocent woman.
I highly doubt Torvalds or most of the kernel devs will. A lot of people whine about "the prison system punishes, so it should be bygones" but society punishes as well. It's not unethical, it's fair, because adults choose their co-workers and I think he'll find it difficult to get accepted by the kernel community.
Wow this mf is beyond weird

Did the americans shun Wernher von Braun for the lives lost not only due to the V2 rocket, but also while creating it? Would mankind have landed on the moon if they had the attitude of the "IT Community"? Think not.
Stop pissing about. Sure Reiser did a horrible thing... that does not mean "anything he contributed should be removed". Fuck, we would all live in caves marveling at the creation of a bonfire if we (mankind) had done that throughout history.
Another great example of stupidity would be Alan Turing. By many considered the "father of computers and ai", but what happened to him? Cracked the enigma code, and provided the foundation for computers, only to suicide cos he was a convicted homosexual and forced to undergo chemical castration. What if that had not happened? Seen in retrospect, would you guys say it was a BENEFIT this happened, or do you think we could have been further in technological development if it had happened with todays attitude towards homosexuality? "Burn his work, so we dont all turn into deviants!". Jeez.. like fondling a dick on his spare time would have ANYTHING to do with what he created...
I am not saying "just wait until murder is legal" ofc, but the comparison is there. Do not let a unrelated action fuck up a contribution. I liked the idea posted a few posts back - rename the project, keep the code. Dont let good things go to waste because of human actions that are completely unrelated to it.

Nothing whatsoever. And it never will.
Yet, the code is still being shunned as if it committed the act.
With the tens of thousands of people that have contributed at least some code to the kernel over the years, I can guarantee you that there probably are more than a few dubious characters out there that did contribute code. Ranging from, most likely, more than just a single murderer to people engaging in sexual predation, battery, domestic violence, etc, etc, etc. I can absolutely guarantee that. Now, if people were to realize that statistical inevitability, I suppose we should just dump all that code?
The cost to redevelop the kernel from scratch... is currently estimated to be in the range of 14+ billion USD.
Yes, all this comes into play when considering matters like these. People find it so easy to just pass blanket judgement on everything someone has done without ever considering the consequences of doing so. Hans Reiser is a piece of shit for murdering his wife -- his code has nothing to do with that though. It never did, it never will and the fact it is even a topic of debate among the kernel developers to exlude his work solely over the fact he did murder his wife is a disgrace to software development as a whole.

I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out where anyone even suggested that Hans not be allowed to contribute to the Linux kernel or anything else once he fulfills his sentencing requirements. It seems like a strawman army has been set up in this thread so people can whine about ethics, SJW's, "cancel culture", or whatever else is on their political agenda. Give it a rest..
