Not to mention that it's 2019 and there apparently still are SysV Init related bugs being filed on packages, one would think that 60:ies technology would have been stable by now.

I don't think it's a big problem. Supporting other kernels + other init systems is even a bigger strain. More focus on Linux will be only helping. Better to do less things but well, than a lot and badly.
