Phoronix: Debian To Seek A General Resolution Over Their Init System Policy

Debian Project Leader Sam Hartman has determined it's necessary to pursue a general resolution among Debian developers over their init system policy and whether to still care about init system diversity outside of systemd...

I hope it will be wrapped up quickly, and time won't be wasted on bikeshedding this forever. systemd works good enough.

We have enough problems as it is, like this drama which blocks Qt and KDE Plasma from being updated in Debian: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugr...cgi?bug=943401

Not to mention that it's 2019 and there apparently still are SysV Init related bugs being filed on packages, one would think that 60:ies technology would have been stable by now.

Shell scripts still can have bugs

This will also effectively make Debian - Linux only. (Unless someone ports a systemd equivalent out of Linux..)

I don't think it's a big problem. Supporting other kernels + other init systems is even a bigger strain. More focus on Linux will be only helping. Better to do less things but well, than a lot and badly.

Please excuse me if I find the choice of a Vladimir Putin gif unintentionally hilarious in this context...

Pls do systemd only. User who don't want to use systemd are using Void or Devuan anyway.
