For those hoping that the Disney+ streaming service would work on Linux in conjunction with a modern web browser, sadly that is not set to be the case. While the likes of Netflix and Hulu can play from Linux desktop web browsers, Disney's tightened Digital Rights Management around their new service doesn't allow for Linux support with current browsers...

As usual, DRM control freaks shoot themselves in the foot. Pirates will do a better job than them, except Disney won't get any money, that they otherwise could have gotten So much for their anti-piracy paranoia actually costing them their profits.

Exactly. Currently this isn't worth anyone's time bypassing, but if it becomes pervasive enough, rest assured it will be broken in no time. Unfortunately, in the meanwhile, people will use that as an argument to point out that "Linux isn't ready for the desktop".

All of these offshoot platforms just weaken the market. The Pirate Bay has every source's content and no one with the know-how (ie Linux users) is going to play along with Disney+/Hulu/Amazon/YouTube Red/Netflix/etc when they can just go to one source and avoid DRM.

I agree on the copyright issue. The "Mickey Mouse Copyright Extension Bill" is probably one of the most heavily lobbied bills in Congress when it comes up for renewal.

Don’t know why Pirate Bay comes up every time someone talks about 'pirated' copies. The site is one of the worse and doesn’t has a serious community. Don’t go there to search for content. It’s not much more than a bygone name anymore.
