I think that a person who occupies an important position and who represents free software should be attentive to what he says, because he is not only himself. There is a picture of Stallman's office door, which if true, does not honor him, when you are a person with responsibilities you cannot lower yourself to that!

Ouch. I just facepalmed myself a concussion.
OMFG, what a tard. That is not something one says out loud in "think of the children"* Western society regardless of one's views on the matter. My state just went from 18+ to 21+ for cigarettes and doofus here thinks child consent is an acceptable topic to discuss? That's like discussing crystal meth with a random cop and not expecting to be harassed.
*eww, not like that

Speaking of Richard Stallman you wrote:

Are you going to provide a citation for that?
I did not see anywhere in the Vice-published email chain Richard insisting that all Epstein's victims did consent.
I wonder how many foolish, heartless, repeaters are going to throw fuel on this fire.

Uh...
I can understand why an MIT graduate and AI lab researcher like Stallman would want to defend his alma mater taking money from Epstein, but this really wasn't the way to actually go about it. Stallman, if anyone, could convincingly make the ignorance argument as he's obviously not the kind of person who would be invited to Epstein's infamous parties with underage girls together with Trump, Clinton and the rest of the east coast elite.
Edit: It would seem like me and many others have been pretty badly hoodwinked about what actually happened by a very bad and malicious mis-characterization of what actually happened. Then again in this era where the worst aspects of tabloid journalism have become the standard way journalism works this was probably to be expected.
Apparently what really happened was that on a mailing list Stallman condemned Epstein (calling him a serial rapist), but when an AI lab colleague was brought up as someone who attended the parties and almost ended up sleeping with a 17-year-old girl Stallman defended him by pointing out that not only did he not know that she was underage and being coerced by Epstein, he also pointed out it was the 17-year-old that propositioned him and he turned her down. In other words he was defending a (now dead) colleague who didn't actually do anything beyond attend Epstein's parties and when propositioned by one of Epstein's victims turn her down.
Not that the talk about consent wasn't completely and utterly idiotic, but all this and even the Phoronix reporting really just proves that the famous Terry Pratchett quote "A lie can run around the world before the truth can get it's boots on" is as true as it ever was...
Edit 2: This is what Stallman actually said in that email which set this all off:
We can imagine many scenarios, but the most plausible scenario is that she presented herself to him as entirely willing.
Assuming she was being coerced by Epstein, he would have had every reason to tell her to conceal that from most of his associates.Last edited by L_A_G; 17 September 2019, 12:57 PM.
