Here's the idea of what I'm talking about, I'm sure you can do better, but I think play with that and you can get something that actually works:

Single-color logos are important for applications I cited in the blog post, such as use in icon libraries (like FontAwesome) and also for screenprinting applications (one color logo on a pen, or bookbag, or whatever.)

While I can see the issues with screen printing (though really you just need Red Hat to give you guys more cash for the purpose because that's a cost limitation not a technical one), I can't say I really agree for icons that you should be kowtowing to the monochrome movement, especially now that we've finally moved past it into starting to gain sanity again with important splashes of color returning again. However if you must, my suggestion would be that you create a simplified logo where you just get rid of the infinity symbol and rely upon the current stylized white f with the teardrop for font awesome.

Otherwise if you're going to change the whole thing to one color you should really look outside the box and drop everything except for the fact that it's blue and work from there. I really don't see playing around with the current infinity + f as working for a single color the way it works right now as a 2 color icon, and it's just going to look bad versus the original. Maybe you can prove me wrong, but the current examples on your blog aren't proving it to me.

If Fedora had ANY other logo right now, and someone proposed the " 'f'-Inside-The-Infinity-Symbol " (the CURRENT logo), that person would be hailed as a genius, and this proposition would be adopted immediately; out-of-hand, with NO surveys; no opinions even requested. It would be a 'done deal', as they say.
The 'facebook mentality' pervading every last aspect of our society has gotten extremely tiresome: 'glitz', 'flash' and 'show' are now more important than substance.
The REAL problem is that most people don't have any REAL work to do anymore. Except to change what DOES work for something which is 'new'.
All you millennials know that if it's new, it absolutely has to be better...right?

Unfortunately, that is not the case and can be confirmed as a matter of fact. We had a logo previous to the current one (which qualifies as "ANY other logo.") When the logo we're using now was first introduced to replace the original one, there was a *ton* of opposition to it. I linked to some of those old threads in the blog post. As explained on the blog related on the current logo:

• It doesn't work well at small sizes
• It doesn't work at all in a single color
• It's hard to work with on a dark background

If you take a close look to the current logo, the infinity symbol (part of the branding) appearing in a light blue got lost in black and white background so the goal is to rectify that problem.


No hat allowed by trademark rules.

I find the second one more appealing as it looks more whole.
It's terribly difficult to judge from images though, because then we're focusing directly on the logo itself. It's similar to looking at a big printout of Helvetica Neue and thinking it might be a good fit for your website, but only when reading on a screen -- focusing on the context instead of the font -- do you notice that it's not as legible as a screen font.

The two proposals are so close together. Even if I was a Fedora user, I wouldn't bother voting.

I'm glad they fixed everything else wrong with this distro so they can now concentrate finding a new logo.
