      Good list of projects, looking forward to the results. Some of the interesting ones (imo):
      • Avi Zajac - GNOME - Improve asynchronous code in GNOME with Javascript Promises
      • Karuna Grewal - GNOME - GNOME Usage: Network and Power analysis
      • Sahithi Yarlagadda - GNU Guix - Improve the user experience for the "guix package" command line tool
      • Perrine Nguimatio & Toni Shortsleeve - LibreHealth


      Hopefully the improved async code in GNOME JS means a smoother shell

          First time I learned about "Affirmative Action" was in the US over a decade ago when I was applying to different colleges. In the application they asked about my race, but I had no idea why they would even care. At any rate, they had checkboxes for all the races, with the first box reading "White (North American, European, Middle Eastern)". Since I'm from Kuwait and considered "Middle Eastern", I checked the white box not knowing doing so would change everything in my application. Along with application, I submitted my SAT score, which was great in Math but less-than-average for the English part. After a few weeks, I get my rejection letter from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor which was shocking since I was a straight-A 4.0 GPA student in high school.

          It wasn't until later that I learned about affirmative action which is essentially reverse-racism. Have I checked any other "minorities" box chances are I would have been accepted. In a way I was glad I was rejected, it was too cold for me in Michigan anyway and I ended up in a college in the Midwest. It seems this culture of reverse-racism is still ongoing in the US.

            Cool story bro, what's that got to do with Outreachy?

            If you're conflating affirmative action in US college admissions with a tiny program that gives a tiny bit of help to a tiny number of people once a year then you're an idiot. I don't know why people get so butthurt about this.

                I don't really get it why this kind of discrimination programs are needed because any woman of average intelligence and ready to do what is needed - that is work hard - can easily maker a career on tech for herself.

                  You just have to read some of the comments on the Outreachy posts to realise why these types of programmes are needed

                    Outreachy isn't "needed".

                    Women make up over 50% of the population. Women make up significantly less than 50% of the population of FOSS participants. Those are facts (unless you want to quibble over 'significantly'). What the reason is is debatable, but regardless, the funders of Outreachy just want to do a little to encourage under-represented groups into FOSS.

                    It isn't about what is "needed", they're just doing something which they think is a good thing.
