There are. For example - AMDGPU-Pro (doesn't using Mesa). Nobody said that only Mesa drivers are "true drivers for Linux". Nvidia driver is Linux driver, just like Mesa. So no, GBM isn't multiplatform. GBM is Mesa only.

of course i can. gbm is supported by all compositors and all drivers.
GBM isn't not supported by all drivers. It's supported by Mesa drivers. It's not 'all'. EGL Streams is still Wayland compatible and lack of GBM support doesn't matter in this. Wayland doesn't specify API to buffer management, so GBM isn't more important solution than EGL Streams. It's Mesa solution, not Linux or Wayland solution.

Does it matter? Wayland isn't GBM only and leave buffer management API to compositor. You can't tell GBM compositor/driver is Wayland compatible, while EGL Streams not. Wayland doesn't depends on them.

    Back to topic, please...

Why can't they standardize the Virtual Machine/Hypervisor drivers and all Virtual Machines/Hypervisors use the same? This is a mess, code duplication nonsense to me...

As for desktop You have GNOME, Enlightenment, almost ready KDE (5.12 will be Wayland focused release) and a few small compositors (sway etc.).

it is a pity that you do not develop X while most of X devs are switched to developing wayland
