Phoronix: The Threaded Input Support In X.Org Server 1.19

As covered previously, threaded input finally landed in the X.Org Server. It's 2016, and these patches had even been sitting around for a few years with no action, while finally this beneficial feature will be shipping with next month's X.Org Server 1.19 release...

What is the purpose of this?
      What benefits does it bring?

That is explained, it will be released to be tested more

"But what the test suite can't test is normal everyday use. So until we get some more code maturity, expect the occasional crash and please do file bug reports. They'll be hard to reproduce and detect, but don't expect us to run into the same race conditions by accident."

Being on Gentoo, I used to get pointer lag when doing system updates but this has not been a problem for a long time, probably thanks to multicore CPUs and better kernel scheduling. Things have to get seriously bad (like a process running away with all the RAM) for this to happen now and if it does, the system is usually about to keel over anyway if the OOM killer doesn't manage to rescue it first.

Did you even read the blog post? It's not that long. Sure, there's some technical info that only devs will be interested in, but you could at least try to skim through it before asking other people to do your homework for you...

Since you’re so smart, you could surely have answered the question briefly…

PS: no, the blog post does not explain clearly what it’s for.

Wtf? With posts like these it's no wonder we've had single threaded crap for so long. When x pegs out it's single core (which it frequently does) it stops responding to input properly causing the mouse to jump around and lag horribly. This should improve game responsiveness, and I don't have input issues anymore when running a makepkg at max while browsing the Internet.
