Phoronix: PRIME Synchronization Is Still Being Worked On To Fix Tearing

A NVIDIA developer has posted two updated patches for PRIME synchronization with the Intel DRM driver to hopefully fix tearing when using PRIME GPU sharing...

Seems to be a good idea as watching movies with active Optimus is not that optimal.

Nice, but won't benefit the AMD drivers from this too?
Also interesting to see that this work is done by an NVIDIA employee. I only saw them investing in mobile related things, not in fixing desktop bugs.

You can use on demand switching with mesa but Nvidia uses
        xrandr --setprovideroutputsource modesetting NVIDIA-0

So.. should this work with dri3? Because on intel+radeonsi with dri3 playing a game looks like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVDZowUGlSc (the shadows flickering have been fixed, the "frame jumping" is the synchronization problem).
So I second the question: Does this already work with radeon?

i think it only use v sync with wayland, with X the tearing is horrible (talking about august experience)

For Radeon iGPU+dGPU with FOSS driver there is no tearing for few years. There was this issue https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56659 but it's fixed now.

Well, with a quick test with glxgears I can say: No, it does not work with dri3 offloading: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1zTqjmisKk (At least in the bugtracker people said this happens because of the same lack of synchronization)

This is a desktop bug that affects their proprietary driver though. That's an exception they've made for a while.

Is PRIME supported under Wayland? If so, how can Wayland ensuare a "perfect frame" with PRIME not supporting v-sync?
