One of the most exciting pull requests to Phoronix readers was just sent in a short time ago for the Linux 3.16 kernel... The DRM graphics subsystem driver changes...

Am I the only one that feels like the Radeon changes really aren't that exciting? Is more coming, or is the development more focused towards Mesa now?

Why does the kernel/driver have any notion of cursor sizes?

The display (modesetting) code is in the kernel driver.

I'm guessing because the cursor exists in a dedicated graphics buffer and they're just making the size of that buffer bigger?

It still seems odd to me that the concept of a cursor exists any level above the display server.

The "concept" is managed up in the display server, but the *hardware* which realizes that concept is managed by kernel code.
