work on DRI and KMS wasnt done ONLY by developers you now find on wayland
at the same time, not all X/mesa developers passed over to wayland ...
but it doesnt matter, what matters is that it was work that had to be done anyway
not doing it would have meant not having anything to counter WDDM
and sticking with AIGLX forever
but apart from that, i suppsed work done in a central component (like the kernel) is meant to benefit ANY other project running on the kernel, not just ONE specific one
nowhere is written that the wayland project shall be the sole (not only a privilged, but the only one) consumer of the API and mechanisms implemented by developers who worked on mesa (before the advent of wayland)..
btw, did you know that, while now it seems obvious and granted that wayland would be the spiritual and actual successor to X, it was neither when it started?
one may be right in saying that canonical is building a product to its own advantage, not out of "love for the community" - but then, what use is all the hatred? for someone who wants to do with as little effort as possible (if it's actually the case) for sure it's not an incentive to help .. on the contrary, it may only cause more reaction spite
("my product is targeted to people who wants something that just works, they wont care if i dont go out of my way to help infrastructure projects i'm not *obliged* to help - as long as it works... fanatic geeks will get mad at me, but that doesnt matter, since they're not my target..")
Also: When you write a game and want to use some 3rd party library would you use it when the developers of it say "right now it's more of a POC and not production ready" just because in your eyes it "just works" ?
