    Admiral0,
FWIW I get the same errors with http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=38120
    But it seems to work.
    Code:
(EE) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad no synaptics event device found
    (EE) Query no Synaptics: 6003C8
(EE) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad Unable to query/initialize Synaptics hardware
(EE) PreInit failed for input device "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"
However, the multitouch patches causes my pointer to go a bit crazy.

Now we just need to figure out how to enable multitouch on all those touchpads that physically support multitouch, but are merely locked down by the firmware.

Binary package hint: synaptic inspired by thread here - http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?p=44505922#post44505922 also reported by Engadget -http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/19/synaptics-driver-enables-multitouch-gestures-on-older-trackpads/ WHQL driver version 15.0.9.0 of synaptics enables multitouch - including two finger scrolling and , 3 finger press and 3 finger flick. Note that this does not support all touchpads (reg. hardware versions), but a lot of hardware have gott...

Haven't updated your laptop's trackpad driver lately? Then you may well want to consider doing so, at least if your laptop is equipped with a Synaptics trackpad. As a user on the Hardware Zone forums discovered, the latest Synaptics driver seems to enable multitouch gestures on older laptops that didn't previously support them, including two-finger scrolling, and three-finger click. What's more, while the drivers themselves come from HP, they should work just fine on other laptops with a Synaptics trackpad. Hit up the link below to try it out for yourself.

I've downloaded all the patches and compressed them. Download here: http://www.speedyshare.com/files/246...atches.tar.bz2. All the patches patch successfully using git xf86-input-synaptics, but it won't compile correctly after patching.

Does anybody know if the new Pinch feature will work on older touchpads like the 6.x series?

Wasn't this supported on Synaptic-proper touchpads? Isn't it the same multi-touch we talk about?

However as there's already a working multi-touch implementation for Elantech, I don't see what were Novell's patent concerns based on...
I'm under the impression that newer Synaptics touchpads such as the "Clickpad" use an entirely different mechanism for multi-touch support.
