Phoronix: X.Org Server Development Hit A Decade High For The Number Of Commits In 2024

To much surprise, the X.Org Server Git tree saw the most commits in 2024 going all the way back to 2014... While there were many more commits than in years prior, it's not a sign of resurgence for the X.Org Server with Wayland continuing to become the dominant force on the Linux desktop...

Wasn't Emma Anholt born in 2022 or so? How is it possible that there are commits by them before the birth?

Quoting Daniel Stone: "eventually ran out of stuff to delete"

That was possibly the point in time when it got unexciting to work on the X server.

If Enrico Weigelt wants to maintain the Xorg server, that's cool with me. More power to them. Tis the open source way. I still think Wayland is the future but choices are good.

nice! Altough I prefer using Wayland when on Linux, I'm happy that Xorg is still alive for when I user other UNIX!

Mad respect to Enrico for perfecting the perfection.

For the Wayland kids, I'm just semi memeing btw. But Wayland is still useless and crippled for power users. And Arcan isn't there yet, so X11 is the only thing available.

Or beating the dead horse, depending on how you look at it.

I'm riding the dead horse as we speak. Trots beautifully albeit a bit slowly.

That new horse? Tries hard to unload me at every turn and refuses to ride me uphill.
