I think it really comes down to one person taking the burden (without getting anything out of it?).

3+ years of code stagnation with the overt statement of life-support for Xorg still holds true until some distro ingests and implements whatever will become 21.1 final. OR.....someone builds, tests and benchmarks 21.1 RC2 against 1.20.13 and we have some solid data on what 21.1 is bringing to the table. Otherwise this all amounts to a nothing burger. Show us the numbers! I imagine a LOT of distros don't even want to begin thinking of switching back to Xorg after they've made the leap and investment into Wayland. Maybe they need a reason (read: data) to see if there's any viability in whatever might some day become 21.1.

Pertty much. Isn't it a sad state of affairs when multi-million dollar Linux orgs who benefit from from previous work could SURELY throw some $$$ at the project...but don't? Yet here's this young guy (he's what, barely 30?) out of Lithuania who basically did a shrugzies and said, why not? He seems to be a brilliant guy but what does it say that a guy like him with zero to gain is willing to take on Xorg? He's either dumb as a bag of hammers and has no idea what he's gotten himself into or he's smarter than all the guys who've been working on it for the past decades and is going to take it into a direction it's been needing to go, but can't, because the slew of mouthbreathing choads who keep answering the phone when the 80s call are holding it back. Shit or get off the pot.

It is basically a waste of time at this point. People who are still using Xorg should be happy they get some features and fixes still i suppose, but it is a dead end and i don't think Xorg 22.1 will appear sooner than 4-5 years from now, if at all. It is better for those who still use it to do the work to migrate to Wayland instead.
