By the way, looks like I'm also suffering from the 58 Hz bug. I noticed at some point that smooth scrolling is broken in all X applications, e.g. Firefox. I guess that is why.

It would also stutter if it showed 60fps, as xwayland in window only supports presenting at fixed 60fps without real vsync. It sounds too dumb to be true, but that's how it is...

I was thinking about the modern DisplayLink devices (i.e. 2013 onwards). They need a blob and they are not "true GPUs", in the sense that they won't work if you don't have at least one Intel or AMD GPU running open drivers in the system (and if the blob does not like the more updated Mesa/Xorg/whatever you have in the system).

Ok, I am aware of the newer devices you are referring to. Never used one though. In regard to your original question, I do not know what effect it will have.
