It is not a laughing matter. xorg-server is among the most important software that desktop users use.

I hope EGLStreams for XWayland does get merged, it is such a important and crucial feature that will have huge impact on GNU/Linux desktop users. RHEL 7.5 now has Wayland as technology preview, and GNOME is RedHat's defacto DE, EGLStreams for XWayland needs to land.

Let's hope it won't land. I can't see a single reason why it should, except doing NVidia a favour, and they don't deserve it.

Best impact would be if this feature doesn't get merged. Got NVidia card? That's a pity, you'll have to ask NVidia for support and avoid Wayland in the meantime. It's not liike NVidia can't contibute to the Unix device memory allocation API, if they are interested in getting their drivers support Wayland. If they don't contribute, it's because they don't care, or they find it easier to wait for EGLStreams to be merged...

Not merging EGLStreams for XWayland will only hurt Wayland adoption, not NVidia...

Good luck trying to force nvidia to change their policy, being part of 0.5% of their customers.

Wayland adoption is fucked up and Nvidia is the sole reason for it.

So that 0.5% should buy AMD or use Windows - period
