But let say it like this:

RC1 - on this point we won't break ABI anymore, slight breakages allowed
    RC2 - slighter breakages allowed
if RC3 - slightest breakages still allowed
release & plus - only bugfixes, security and non-intrusive backports allowed, and slightestest breakages.
    Fixed.

Is the RC1 an unstable mess, or why?

Prime example of project management failure.

    X.Org has huge management issues.

Apparently "slight breakages" included the amdgpu driver. At least modesetting still works.

    GNOME and KDE uses Wayland.

Electron 2.0.0-beta2 was released yesterday, so I guess soon the final 2.0 release will be done, which now use GTK3.
Then we wait for Atom, Spotify, Skype and VS Code to be rebuilt using Electron 2.0.

It looks like Firefox 59 will have preliminary Wayland support.
VLC 3.0 was recently released with initial Wayland support. So the only thing missing is GIMP.

So soon I can uninstall X.Org Server and run Wayland exclusively.

Now lets hope EGLStreams for XWayland will land in time as well.
Then all features are merged and nvidia binary blob users can also enjoy X11 apps on Wayland with EGLStreams patched compositor (such as mutter ).
