    I wonder what the status of Freedreno is, as far as OpenGL ES support is concerned? Several Android devices use Adreno GPUs, so if the driver is in good shape, it could be used to get newer Android versions working on older devices (assuming minimum requirements are met). The biggest hindrance is lack of proper drivers that work with newer kernel versions, and which you can modify if needed to work with the HALs and/or Project Treble.
