Hopefully this will not break xdg_shell v6 support on Plasma-Wayland again.

Do you mean it is currently working? Because I tried Firefox-wayland in flatpak and it wont start on Plasma-wayland.

Do you mean it is currently working? Have you tried running Firefox-wayland in flatpak? If I understand this correctly FF-wayland cant start on Plasma-wayland because xdg_shell is missing there.

Why are the features of dxg-shell not part of the core Wayland?

Because Wayland has more use-cases than just the desktop (IVI, mobile, TV/embedded, etc).

It won't break the xdg_shell_v6 support in Plasma-Wayland. We don't remove support for interfaces we already support. But if toolkits remove support for xdg_shell_v6 before we implement the new protocol, then things will break. That's what you probably remember as the breakage. KWin supported xdg_shell_v5 and GTK dropped support for it before we had xdg_shell_v6.

As the differences are smaller compared to v5 to v6 I'm slightly optimistic that we can land support before our next release.
