The way to combine the best of both IMO is to develop a mobile version of Gnome, and, if possible, make it responsive to screen size.

so most capable engineers you've ever worked with were unable to understand wayland properly. that is pretty low level of engineers around you

Jeez, chill out bro, it all started in ~2013, wayland was being developed by Høgsberg, everyone was starting to support it.

Canonical leaders/managers thought that they could be faster doing things by their own, it isn't the fault of the developers if the management is telling them to build stuff from the scratch.

They probably are great developers, but it doesn't matter if the management tell them to build rome and the great wall of china in 1 day

I think he was rather referring to them completely misunderstanding how wayland input worked and spreading baseless fud justifying their nih approach.

Maybe some of the developers did voice concerns at the start of the project, but once decisions are made you have to get on with things. You can't turn up to work every day trying to derail a project and hope to keep your job.

Companies pay people to achieve business objectives and if that's developing Mir or Unity or even maintaining a blog, then that's what you do if you want to remain employed.

this is misinformation. mir devs stated reasons why they can't just use wayland and those reasons were actually their misconceptions about wayland and everyone laughed
