    They are both replacing something that has been under development for 30 years... so having it come about so quickly is pretty good. Wayland at least has had boring releases for the last year - which are good, stable releases with the bulk of the changes being around bringing up new DE's quickly using a toolkit.

    The hard part for the old DE's removing decades of X assumptions from their code which is coming along quite nicely

    This appears to be something that was implemented almost 2 years ago.

    You do know that Wayland's drag-and-drop isn't much better? I can only speak about Gnome 3 (old distribution without Plasma Wayland), but it is not possible to drag and from a Wayland window to an X window. Which is very annoying for impromptu file transfers.
