Like, I get that many bathrooms are small and closet-like, I just meant the whole "water" part of "water closet" felt silly to me, like you took your closet and just filled it up with water. It sholud be like... the toilet-room :P - bathroom works for me since in America the bath or shower is always in the same room as the toilet, but I hear that's not true everywhere.

There were other similar designs (for rich people anyway) but I can't find images of them, as apparently the WC isn't something you showcase when you put online photos of a castle or mansion or whatever to attract visitors.
And yes, French managed to keep the tradition alive, I've seen way too many toilets inside a wardrobe when I went to France.

That said, I wasn't alive when "Water Closets" were in common use, I honestly don't know what it actually refers to. Your water closet seems more plausable.
