In that ideology, the one toolkit should've been GTK+. Important libraries would've been built in C and using GLib. For more high-level development, the language would've been Vala. Of course, for scripting, you could've used any language you like, thanks to GObject Introspection. But most importantly, in this ideology, there would be no C++. It would've been expressly forbidden.

Of course, we would've lost an enormous amount of software and the community would've been completely destroyed. But other than that...

oh god no
i personally don't like C++ but glib is just a horrible piece of shit
it is so bad that you can't do proper threading with it
not to mention that everything made with it will be slow as shit
its the C equivalent of boost, if not worse

QT is written in C++
and it is no where near perfect (ignoring C++)
but it is still MUCH better then anything remotely associated with glib


short story: i don't like C++ and id still rather use QT then glib

flash needs gtk2
otherwise mozilla would have made firefox use gtk3 a looong time ago
(most of the work distancing firefox from X11 was made years ago)

That's not true at all. There are dozens of other companies like put a lot of time, effort, and money into the development of linux. For non-hardware purposes, IBM, Oracle, Novell, Google, and maybe even Facebook seem to pitch in more than Intel.

A proper GUI library should be written in a proper object oriented language.

C++11 is a decent language, much better than C + GObject
